How much does it cost to run a home sauna?
Running cost depends mainly on the size of the sauna (1, 2, or 3+ person) and your electricity tariff, since a larger cabin needs more power to heat. As a guide, an infrared sauna typically costs around 30p to 55p per 45-minute session. For a worked example: at the current Ofgem price cap of 26.11p per kWh (July to September 2026), a 2-person cabin drawing around 2kW would use about 1.5 kWh over a 45-minute session, costing roughly 39p. A smaller 1-person cabin would be a little less, and a larger 3+ person cabin a little more. Your own cost will vary with your tariff and how warm you run it. Infrared saunas heat you directly rather than warming the air and the whole cabin, so they use less energy and reach a comfortable temperature quickly, all from a standard plug.
